After having her own children and experiencing several “babysitting nightmares,” child care expert, Lisa McLellan, began helping other parents find trustworthy, caring, and qualified child care providers for their children. Using her 30+ years of childcare experience, Lisa wrote an eBook “Seven Things to Know Before You Hire That Babysitter” to help new parents know what to ask potential babysitters and what to look out for.
Please feel free to take a look at Lisa’s babysitting tips, helpful hints for parents, and articles related to the health and welfare of children and their families throughout this website and on her blog. Lisa McLellan, “The Babysitting Lady,” has also been interviewed as a child care expert by US News & World Report, Fox Business, and several other publications around the world. Additionally, she was the Subject Matter Expert on site for the filming of the Red Cross’s 2012 Advanced Child Care Training Videos.
We wish you all the best in your search for the perfect child care provider for your family and hope that this site will aid you in your endeavor. Always interview a potential child care provider even if you have connected with them through an agency, and ask for references. Try to get at least three references, preferably from people they’ve done child care for, and check ALL of them. If the babysitter or nanny is over 18, you may want to do a background check as well.
Child care expert Lisa McLellan recommends that you take any complaint about a child care provider by your child seriously. Investigate each complaint if it is something that is dangerous, inappropriate, or makes you or your child uncomfortable in any way. It is certainly much easier to dismiss accusations by your child against his or her babysitter, but avoid taking the easy way out when your child’s health and safety are at stake.
When searching for the perfect childcare provider, keep your standards high, your children are worth it!
